Geeky monthly captures: February 2023

February was a good month for us. Some decisions we were waiting for some time, finally arrived. Many things became clearer thanks to this and my heart was filled with gratitude many times during this month.

Otherwise, we used all our weekends and free evenings to explore emptier, less touristy Paris, misty and rainy streets inviting for a walk. If you want to see less crowded Paris with locals and students filling the streets, come here in the winter after Christmas. You can enjoy the museums without long queues and  major sites frequented mostly by Parisians, you may also stop by in emptier than usual little cafe to absorb slightly lethargic atmosphere, many people departed for school holidays and those who stayed try at least slower a bit a pace as if waiting for the liveliness and energy of coming spring (or it’s just my impression? :))

Still, the cultural life of the city doesn’t hibernate for winter. New temporary exhibitions are open, concerts are being given and restaurants invite for delicious meal – I find that Paris has one of the best gastronomical offer in the world, you can eat not only excellent French cuisine but also enjoy authentic dishes from all regions in the world. As an avid enthusiast of Asian cuisine I have my favourite spots that serve Thai, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese plates.

In this post, I invite you to explore with me winter Paris. I will take you for many walks, exhibitions and events that attended this month.

Evening in front of the Church of Saint-Sulpice which became even more famous when Dan Brown included it in his plot in The Da Vinci Code novel.
Last days of exhibition Le Chic ! Decorative arts and furniture from 1930 to 1960. You could see there gathered together for the first time in one display, nearly 200 works from the collections of the Mobilier National which embodies the essence of French “Chic”. Must see for interior design enthusiasts!
The exhibition taken place in historical Gobelins Manufactory in the 13th district. This is less known Parisian museum which I recommend visiting if you are interested in tapestry craftsmanship.
The Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre in the sun.
I’m not that often in Montmartre neighbourhood since it’s often very crowded. February is a perfect time for a calm walk though.
Centre Pompidou and its curiosities. I also love going to their design boutique.
I find that one of best views at Paris are from the terraces of Centre Pompidou.
Personally, I find February the most nostalgic month in Paris, just look at those streets!
New homemade dish introduced to our menu! Marinated turkey with mango and arugula salad. To repeat.
Fascinating exhibition Gold and Treasures. 3000 Years of Chinese Ornaments. Fascinating display of jewels and daily objects made of gold and other precious materials with explanations about Chinese ancient symbolics. Still available for booking (free entrance, reservation required), place: L’École des Arts Joailliers | 31 rue Danielle Casanova | 75001 Paris.
Preparations for movie shooting. Not that uncommon view in Paris.
Special mural for Saint Valentine!
Open days of The Beaux-Arts de Paris school. You could see the representative areas as well as classrooms and student works. These areas are rarely open to public so I really enjoyed the opportunity. I liked the artistic atmosphere of this place!
I liked a lot the works of the students.
First shy cherry tree blooms.
If you search for more unusual places in Paris I recommend digging into 13th and 14th districts’ rural streets which make you feel like in a small village in the middle of the city.
Visiting small Parisian zoo in Jardin des Plantes, there is not many animals but the zoo is very conveniently located in the middle of the city so it’s still worth coming on Sunday morning!
Now I understand better the meaning of the word catwalk 😀
French temptations.
There is always good time for coffee in Paris.
Visiting small (but charming) Musée de la Vie romantique which was once belonged to French novelist George Sand, she was in relationship with composer Frederic Chopin who was a frequent guest here when they were a couple. The museum’s permanent exhibition is free of charge. The cafeteria (especially in the garden) looks lovely, however prices are too elevated with respect to quality of served snacks.
Excellent discovery of another authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Paris.
March is coming!
… more to come! See you next month!

The picture of sweets from local bakery made me so hungry! I’m really surprised how the city gets empty in February, maybe this is really an ideal month to enjoy ‘local’ Paris warming up in some cute cafes between museums?

Aaah, I was too late for Le Chic and I love decorative art! Never actually visited Gobelins Manufacture and do they also have free Sunday deal?

Love Paris in February! Your monthly captures are so inspiring, now I wanna attend in free time some interesting events and exhibitions too. It takes around 50km to get from my town to the bigger city with museums but I need to check their offer and spend more of my weekends doing inspiring things!
